Aecom has been announced as the world’s biggest architect by BD in its annual WA Top 100 survey, after it stands as the first practice to employ more than 2,000 individuals in a fee-earning architectural position.
Winning the 2016 Rio Olympic stadium created a substantial demand for architects within the firm, and allowed them to increase their number of architectural employees to 2,100- more than a quarter more than Nikken Sekkei, a Japanese practice announced as the second biggest architectural firm.
This comes at the head of an excellent year for Aecom who’s highlights for this year include the successful acquisition of URS Corporation, being announced in the list of world’s most ethical employers for the fourth year running and collaborating with IBM to provide an innovative tool which will help urban areas strengthen understanding of and planning for disaster resilience.
In addition to these high points Aecom has been working on several substantial projects during 2014 including the Rio Olympic stadium, the London Crossrail and Abu Dhabi International Airport. These are only a few of the major wins that Aecom has secured in the past few years, with these in progress and new bids continually being won, Aecom looks set to do very well in 2015 and its number of architects and total employees only looks set to grow even further.
