Arup Secures Venue and Infrastructure Development for Olympic Games in a Row
Posted on: 15/10/2014

Arup have once again managed to win the bid to advise the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Organising Committee in the development of venues and infrastructure for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This makes Arup the lead engineering team involved in the Olympic Games for three consecutive games, after previously playing a part in renewing Beijing and London in advance of the Olympics.

Jerome Frost, Arup director, who was head of design and regeneration at the London Olympics, has stated that Arup is proud to be involved and continue their contribution to the 2020 Tokyo Games. Arup not only works on providing the host stadium for the games, but also takes on the responsibility for the urban renewal of entire cities, encouraging the event not only as an international competition, but as a catalyst for long-term investment and development for the city.

Arup’s role for the Tokyo Olympics will include several areas inclusive of transport, security, sustainability and legacy. They will be joining teams with their partner consultant AECOM, to guide decisions in relation to venue briefs and the overall delivery of design and construction in order to offer the legacy transformation that is symbolic of the Games Host Cities.

Arup will begin work for the games in the following year, whilst simultaneously working on a number of other international projects including Kilden Concert Hall, a 12000 seat concert for the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and Brisbane Airport Link.
