City’s Tallest Office Plans Submitted
Posted on: 25/08/2015

Plans have been submitted for a new 26-storey office block to be built in Birmingham. The plans are currently under consideration by city councillors, however if it is given the go ahead, then the skyscraper- standing at 346ft (105m) – would become the city’s tallest office block.

However, the £60m project, headed by Sterling Property Ventures and Rockspring, would require the demolition of the current-standing NatWest Tower. The Tower, with 22 storeys, was built in the 1970s but has been vacant since 2003.

The new skyscraper would have a steel, aluminium and glazed structure, stand at 800ft above sea level, and boast a winter garden, restaurant, and retail unit, all of which would be accessible primarily for the people of Birmingham. Reactions have been positive, as not only would the construction create 500 jobs, but after completion employ roughly 2,000 workers.

The modern building would consist of 19 office floors, and basement parking for 34 cars and 92 bicycles. Overall, there would be 196,000 sq ft of office space, and 15,000 sq ft of leisure space. The 103 Colmore Row skyscraper would offer fantastic 360 degree city views from the rooftop restaurant, which Eric Liden, European director of Rockspring, believes is symbolic of the city’s ongoing regeneration.

Their application is currently under consideration by the councillors, who had previously postponed the NatWest Tower demolition. If the development team are given the go ahead, the predicted completion date has been set for 2018.
