Crossrail 2 Growth Commission Request Further Funding
Posted on: 17/07/2015

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced that former local government Chief, Sir Merrick Cockell will be the chairman of a new Crossrail 2 Growth Commission.

This came after several stakeholders and senior figures such as HS1 Rob Holden, Mace chief executive Mark Reynolds and Townsend chief executive Vincent Clancy, signed an open letter to the chancellor George Osborne urging the government to find further funding for the new rail line in the forthcoming Comprehensive Spending Review.

Boris Johnson commented: “Major projects take time to plan and prepare and, with Crossrail 1 nearing completion, we must move quickly to the next transformational growth project, which could see even more benefits delivered.

“Crossrail 2 will support up to 200,000 more homes and jobs, adding billions of pounds to the national economy and ensuing a prosperous future for the whole country.”

The new Crossrail 2 chairman Sir Merrick stated: “This new railway is imperative to the future growth of the capital and across the UK, and the Growth Commission will play a key role in helping ensure local development plans along the route meet their full potential.”

This comes as the newest development in the Crossrail project and shows that despite the progress being made, turbulent times are still being encountered.
