Debates over Heathrow Expansion Continue between Stakeholders
Posted on: 15/07/2015

Following the announcement last week that Heathrow was recommended by the Davies Commission for the new London runway, Heathrow Chief Executive has told that tenders for work will start to be issued by the end of the year.

John Holland-Kaye (Chief Executive) has made these declarations despite the government not having made a formal decision upon the runway location. Prime Minister David Cameron has promised that his decision will be offered before the end of the year, which many eagerly await due to his pledges in 2008 to block the Heathrow expansion.

Holland-Kaye spoke about the situation: “What we are looking for is an early decision and an early vote in parliament […] sometime around September would be key.”

The Chief Executive has advertised the Heathrow expansion as an opportunity to “create the world’s most modern, efficient and best connected hub airport at the heart of an integrated transport system.”

A spokesperson for Heathrow has said: “The commission found that Heathrow’s new plan for expansion can be delivered while reducing local and environmental impacts and that expansion at Heathrow is the only solution which can help British businesses compete for global growth, and support a truly national recovery built on exports, skills and investment.”

The result of the Davies Commission was long awaited by all the stakeholders of the airport expansion, and it is without doubt that the government’s decision will attract the same attention.
