Contractor Interserve has won a £35m contract for a new clinical facility for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, with BDP offering the architectural design.
The bid was for both the design and build of a new cancer clinic and will provide improved patient facilities for a variety of services including cancer, haematology and stem cells. The new building will play host to 18 surgical beds and three theatres in addition to a children’s rare diseases centre.
Work is expected to start early next year and will be a relatively short project- being completed in 2017.
The divisional director of Interserve Simon Butler has said: “We are delighted to have been selected to play such a key role in delivering a world class children’s hospital.
“As one of the official Principal Supply Chain Partners (PSCP) for P21+ we have extensive experience in the delivery of innovative and successful healthcare schemes and we are looking forward to working collaboratively with Birmingham Children’s Hospital.”
