Aecom, a global provider of architecture, design, engineering and construction services has been appointed as cost consultant for the third phase of the £8bn redevelopment of the Battersea Power Station site. Located next to the power station, the third phase site will consist of 1,300 homes, 103 of which will be cost-effective, plus a 160-room hotel, restaurant and retail space covering an area of 350,000 square feet. In its role as cost consultant, Aecom will team up with architects Frank Gehry and Foster & Partners while working on the next phase. The cost consultant position for the first two phases was won by competitor, Gardiner & Theobald, which means victory is sweet for Aecom this time around by successfully clinching this specific role for the third phase of the Battersea Power Station project.
Apart from the appointment of Aecom, the client, Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) will be confirming soon other consultancy roles for phase three that include project manager and engineer. A new high street, to be named Electric Boulevard, will have five buildings on the eastern side that have been designed by Gehry Partners. These will be available as retail units at street level, and includes residential units and a centre with various facilities available for the community. To the west of Electric Boulevard will be the building that is to be dubbed The Skyline, designed by Foster & Partners. Following the line of the boulevard, it will include the hotel, residential accommodation and a medical centre.
