Manchester City Council Approve £110m Art Venue for the City
Posted on: 27/07/2015

A new opportunity has arisen for Architectural firms after Manchester City Council confirm plans for a £110m flexible art space in the centre of the city.

Known as ‘The Factory’ the project has already received £78m in funding from the Central government, following plans to boost Manchester and surrounding areas into a ‘cultural and economic counterbalance’ to the UK’s capital London.

Originally announced more than a year ago by chancellor George Osborne, the plans have finally been given the green light and building will commence in 2017 on the former site of Granada TV studios in Manchester city.

Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, has said: “The significance of The Factory cannot be overstated.

“It will be internationally significant, the cultural anchor for the next phase of economic and cultural regeneration in Manchester, Greater Manchester and beyond.

“It will help power Manchester and the wider region towards becoming a genuine cultural and economic counterbalance to London.”

Many stakeholders are just as excited as Sir Leese, especially architectural firms who have the potential to win the £9.5m design contract for the new venue.
