So how does BIM measure up?
Posted on: 10/12/2014

Building Information Model (BIM) is, in the simplest terms, the means by which people can understand a building through the use of a digital model. It allows for architects and engineers working on the building to maximise the buildings performance and efficiency.

Recently an online survey was conducted by the CIBSE BIM Working Group to find out the extent to which BIM is understood and used in a daily context. Both users and non-users were asked about their knowledge, faith and use of BIM within their working environment, as a company working closely with contractors in the building services sector we were very interested in the results.

A large consensus of individuals said to have become more informed about BIM over the last year, good news for those in the BIM Task Group who have been working hard over the past three years to increase awareness and understanding about BIM. A significant proportion of respondents have used BIM in their work, with almost three-quarters having used it recently (almost double the amount when compared to last years’ survey).

Whilst there were several respondents who claimed to have not used BIM, most of these stated that they were still aware of the principle of BIM. Furthermore a substantial amount of these shared the view that BIM would likely become very important to them later on in their career- which encourages growth in use in the upcoming years.

This brief summary of the results shows optimistic growth for BIM and its use within the building services sector. Annual growth has been continuous for the amount of people aware, informed and using BIM and based on these results this growth looks set to know for the next few years.

We are currently looking for a CAD/BIM Manager to work in London on a permanent basis- for more details on this position please click here.
