VINCI appointed to manage new plans for London Olympic Stadium
Posted on: 04/02/2015

French construction group VINCI, who already operate several French stadiums, has won a 25 year contract for the management and control of London’s former Olympic stadium.

Pierre Coppey, chief operating officer of VINCIsaid: “[We have been] awarded the contract to run the former Olympic Stadium in recognition of Vinci’s expertise and the business model it has developed for the operation of multi-purpose arenas, including the “Stade de France”.

Balfour Beatty is currently working on the site to convert it from the stadium into a multi-use venue, and once this work has completed VINCI will be responsible for the daily running of the stadium as well as bringing in new events.

The stadium has already been booked to hose five matches of the Rugby World Cup 2015, and will fully re-emerge itself in 2016 as the new home for West Ham United Football as well as upholding itself as the official competition venue for UK national Olympics. Working alongside E20 Stadium Partnership- a joint venture between the London Legacy Development Corporation and Newham Council- VINCI will ensure that these events go smoothly and prove the property as a first-class multi-use venue.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “This is more good news in our goal to deliver a long-lasting legacy from London’s Olympic and Paralympic Games. VINCI is a world-class operator and set to be a key partner in the creation of a spectacular stadium offering a dynamic range of sport and attractions for Londoners to enjoy”.

The UK has many venues which have outrun their original purpose; these offer numerous opportunities for construction companies to get involved with regeneration projects such as this.
