Willmott Dixon to build three new schools in Milton Keynes

Willmott Dixon has been selected by Milton Keynes council to build three new schools by 2016.

The nationwide contractor has built over 100 school projects in the past 3 years for both primary and secondary schools, ranging from Southampton, to Liverpool, to Middlesbrough. Dealing with a range of sectors, they have also delivered a number of other public and commercial buildings too, including hotels, healthcare, and retail sites.

The first three schools to be built, Newton Leys, Fairfield, and Whitehouse, are all primary schools which will commence the start of the council’s £160m schools investment programme. Under this programme, the council plan to initially create 7 new schools, with plans to expand to a total of 12 by 2018.

Whilst Willmott Dixon will build the schools, they have picked three architects to work with them on each site. Working with CORDE for Fairfield, ADP for Whitehouse, and Synergy for Newton Leys, they will ensure that the sites are completed in time for the new school year in September 2016.

Managing director at Willmott Dixon, Peter Owen, announced that 2,000 new school places will be made available, which will improve the short supply the UK currently has. Not only will the new schools boost the short supply, but it will also benefit the local economy, through offering apprenticeships and work experience during and after completion.

The contract, which will cost £21m, is part of Scape Group’s £1.25bn national major works framework.
