The chosen candidate will have a variety of roles and responsibilities to ensure the success of the business, they will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the delivery of Mechanical services work across multiple projects, as part of a single or multi discipline design team.

  • Carrying out any or all stages of Mechanical design from concept to completion as required by the project.

  • Leading the preparation of enquires for potential major projects, including generation of man-hours estimates.

  • Leading a multi-disciplinary design team where required.

  • Reporting on project technical and financial performance to Director.

  • Actively contribute to the development of the department.

  • Assuring the quality of design by junior team members

  • Assisting in the mentoring and development of more junior engineers.

  • Being recognised for exceptional delivery with our clients.

Qualifications and training:

Technical skills and experience:

  • A comprehensive, current knowledge base of all mechanical building and infrastructure services with a particular expertise in the pharmaceutical sector.

  • Technical knowledge of Mechanical building services in one or more of core sectors.

  • Proven and demonstrable track record of exceptional project delivery and client satisfaction in both technical and commercial aspects.

  • Experience of major projects within a variety of business sectors (including industrial process, Manufacturing, Power Generation, Aviation, Education, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical)

  • Fully familiar with assurance processes, codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation.

  • Exceptional communication skills.

  • Ability to liaise and co-ordinate with clients, Architects and all other members of the Design

  • Team.

  • Building Services degree or higher educational qualification (HNC/HND)
  • AutoCAD and ideally Revit MEP experience
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise workload.
  • Positive and approachable attitude

Due to an increasing workload, our client is now actively seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their passionate design team working on site near Cambridge on commercial fit out and pharmaceutical project.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you will join an established team on site near Cambridge, working on a pharmaceutical project on an initial 6 month contract. As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be doing hands on design using Hevacomp and have the ability to take control of projects when required.

Essential Requirements:


  • Dynamic individuals with a strong HVAC background 

  • First-rate communication skills

  • Knowledge of existing standards and ability to develop requirements for new building service projects

  • Previous pharmaceutical/critical systems projects.

  • Experience doing site surveys, heat calculations, steam and ventilation systems design

  • Working knowledge of technical software including Hevacomp

  • Previous experience on projects involving fluid movement

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Drive and determination

  • Good supervisory qualities and experience

  • Highly motivated with the drive to take on new challenges


The ideal candidate will be Chartered, have IES experience & have previous experience working on commerical fit out and pharmaceutical projects. Candidates applying for this position must be comfortable working near Cambridge.
