HV ENGINEER

Our client is a worldwide manufacturing organisation who are looking for a Trainee HV Lab Engineer to join them in the Southampton Area. The selected candidate will learn the design and testing principles associated with HV cables and accessories within the HV Lab, to assist setting up tests and to record tests results accurately.

This position is well suited to an individual that is looking to advance their career and education, whilst gaining hands-on experience in a thriving and supportive workplace. This exciting position offers the opportunity to progress into a higher role with the possibility of day release to further academic qualifications alongside training in the Laboratory.

 The UK High Voltage Laboratory tests everything from high voltage to extra high voltage cables and accessories and is the largest laboratory both within the UK and within the organisation worldwide.

Role/Responsibilities:

• To learn the safe operation of complex electrical test equipment.
• To assist with the setup of HV tests, including process control instrumentation.
• Reading, interpreting and becoming familiar with international testing standards. 
• To assist in the implementation of electrical tests as defined in relevant test procedures / international standards.
• Assisting with general laboratory housekeeping.
• Monitoring of tests & accurately recording results.
• Control and purchasing of materials.
• To assist in the management of annual calibrations of test equipment.
• To assist in plant maintenance activities.
• To undertake additional training and education.
• Preparation of technical approval documentation for submission to customers.
• Writing technical reports.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Capability to undertake practical hands-on, large scale electrical testing working as part of a dynamic team.
• BTEC or HNC Qualification in an electrical based field.

• Good computer skills – MS Office.

• Self-motivated, good practical skills and high health & safety awareness.

• Highly organised and able to work alone without supervision.

• Salary of up to £22,000 p.a.
