client are a multi-national consultancy providing engineering, design, planning
across all aspects of the built environment, including the water industry. They are currently looking for an experienced, Senior/Principal
Hydrologist to join their team in Cardiff/Bristol. This is an exciting
opportunity to deliver a growing portfolio of impactful projects for clients such as
the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and other risk management
authorities. This role will also support Dams and Reservoirs projects.
Our client are looking for a talented and
enthusiastic Chartered Senior/Principal Hydrologist to join their growing Water team in Cardiff/Bristol, although
the location is flexible. This role offers a strong pipeline of opportunities
working on secured frameworks for AMP7.
Role:
As an experienced
technical lead, the role forms a key position providing skills and technical
knowledge of flood risk management justification and design. You will
be working as part of project teams to comprising engineers and
specialists. Your role will also include supporting and developing less
experienced technical staff.
This role offers excellent
career prospects with scope for personal skill development, providing
specialist technical leadership across the UK. You will be interacting with and
advising other engineers, specialists, managers, clients and reporting on work
progress, bids and strategic delivery coordination across our UK offices.
Responsibilities:
- Working with colleagues
in specialisms such as Flood and Coastal Risk Management, Dams and
Reservoirs, Site Development, Sustainability and Environmental Planning.
- Working with
collaborators such as environmental scientists, engineers, landscape
architects and planners.
- Meeting and working
with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders – including site
visits.
- Reviewing
the specification and delivery of hydraulic and coastal risk
modelling for use in solution development.
- Carrying out
assessment and analysis and preparing technical reports and
specification.
- Managing projects.
- Winning commissions
from clients.
- Managing your own
time and deadlines to meet project commitment, and those of less
experienced colleagues.
- Managing, supporting
and training junior staff.

Our client are looking for
people with skills in the following specific areas: hydrology and hydraulic
design. Supporting skills could include river engineering, flood risk
modelling, GIS, coding, stakeholder engagement ,economic appraisal, and
business case development in line with HM Treasury Green Book.
Qualifications/Skills
- Masters/Bachelors
Degree in a technical field.
- Demonstrable
experience in Hydrology and Flood Risk Management, including the Flood
Estimation Handbook and ReFH2 software.
- Experience of using
WINFAP, FEH (Flood Estimation Handbook), LowFlows, ReFH2
- Thorough
understanding of the principles of flood and coastal risk management
projects.
- Experience working in
multidisciplinary teams and client/stakeholder liaison.
- Possess effective
planning and organisation skills.
- An ability to
multi-task efficiently under pressure and maintain a high level of
attention to detail.
- Be able to analyse
data and drawings.
- Experience of working
for FRM authorities.
Desirable
Skills
- An understanding of
modelling software is an advantage.

- Experience and
willingness to adopt/adapt/develop new digital tools to aid collaboration
