About the Role:
Reporting to the Severe Accident Analysis Lead, the Severe Accident Analyst will be responsible for developing a severe accident analysis method and delivering the requisite safety analysis which verifies the reactor plant design and informs the Probabilistic Safety Assessments.
The role will involve working with the design, performance and safety teams to understand the technical nature of the nuclear reactor plant design as well as producing containment and consequence analyses to characterise system performance and ultimately verify the performance and safety of the final design.
The Severe Accident Analyst will deliver a strategy that supports design development as well as completion of the Generic Design Assessment regulatory process. Working in a small team of engineers, they will develop validated analysis methods using industry standard codes (including MAAP, GOTHIC and PACE), create representative models of the reactor plant design and assess plant transient response during complex accident scenarios.
You will be a Chartered Engineer (or similar) and will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. You will also have:
A solid understanding of the principles of nuclear safety.
Experience in the development of Severe Accident Management Guidelines.
Experience on accident progression phenomena modelling using tools such as MAAP or MELCOR.
Experience of Level 3 PSA techniques and software, such as PC COSYMA, PACE, ADMS or similar.
Experience in delivering analysis programmes in support of design development from initial concept through to detailed design.
Planning and organising skills to manage programme activities and deliverables.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A good understanding of Safety and UK Regulatory Affairs.
Key Responsibilities of the Role will be:
Develop and deliver the severe accident analysis programme, including definition of the analysis basis and technical supervision to supporting analysts.
Prioritise analysis team activities to ensure on time delivery, cost and quality for all project deliverables.
Define and manage requirement traceability from design through to analysis, models and method validation.
Ensure appropriate quality is achieved in all aspects of the analysis programme.
Act as technical authority for severe accident analysis both internal and external to the company.
Understand and articulate technical and programme risks, managing them as appropriate with the SAA lead.
