Job Title: Site Manager Location: Ashford Job Type: Contract Duration: Initial 2–3 Months (Potential Extension up to 6 Months) IR35 Status: Inside IR35 Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (45 hours per week) Rate: Negotiable Overview An urgent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Manager to support works on a live substation upgrade project in Ashford. The role is required immediately to support ongoing survey and investigation works, ensuring site activities are managed safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will oversee works including major equipment replacement, extensive cabling and infrastructure upgrades within a live high-voltage environment. While the construction of a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) building is planned for a later phase of the project, the Site Manager may provide valuable input during the design development stage. Key Responsibilities · Manage day-to-day site operations on a live substation project · Oversee works including equipment replacement, cabling installation and substation upgrades · Coordinate site teams, contractors and project stakeholders · Ensure strict compliance with health, safety and environmental standards · Monitor progress and ensure works are delivered in line with project programmes · Support investigation and survey activities currently underway · Provide site-based input into design development where required · Liaise with project management and engineering teams to resolve site queries Requirements · Proven experience as a Site Manager within utility, power or substation environments · Experience working on live high-voltage sites · Strong knowledge of National Grid safety and operational standards · Ability to manage complex site operations in a regulated environment · Strong leadership, communication and coordination skills Essential Certifications · Candidates must hold the following (in date): · National Grid Safety Instructions (NSI) 6 & 8 – Competent Person · Temporary Works Coordinator certification · CAT 1 & CAT 2 with Substation High Voltage (HV) module for utility excavation · SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) · SHEA (Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness) Candidates will also be required to complete an internal assessment relating to National Grid supplier requirements.
