An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Cable Engineer to join a globally recognised engineering consultancy delivering some of the UK's most significant high-voltage transmission and energy infrastructure projects. This Lead Cable Engineer role is ideal for an experienced technical leader with extensive HV transmission cable design expertise who enjoys influencing engineering strategy, mentoring teams and delivering innovative solutions across nationally significant infrastructure programmes. The successful Lead Cable Engineer will become the technical authority for HVAC and HVDC cable systems, leading multidisciplinary teams while driving technical excellence across complex transmission projects. The Role As a Lead Cable Engineer, you'll be responsible for: Leading the technical delivery of HV transmission cable system designs Acting as the principal technical authority for complex HVAC and HVDC cable projects Providing technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept through detailed design and construction support Leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on major transmission infrastructure projects Reviewing and approving complex engineering designs and technical documentation Driving innovation and continuous improvement across cable design methodologies Supporting tender submissions with technical expertise and cost optimisation strategies Acting as the primary technical interface with clients, contractors, regulators and key stakeholders Mentoring and developing engineers across the business Ensuring compliance with IEC, IEEE, National Grid and relevant industry standards Supporting strategic business growth and representing the business within industry forums This Lead Cable Engineer position offers the opportunity to shape the future of the UK's electricity transmission network while working on some of the industry's most technically challenging projects. What We're Looking For We're looking for an experienced Lead Cable Engineer with extensive HV transmission expertise. Ideally, you'll have: Previous experience as a Lead Cable Engineer, Lead Electrical Engineer or Principal Power Engineer Extensive experience designing HV/EHV transmission cable systems Strong knowledge of HVAC and HVDC cable design Chartered Engineer (CEng) status Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams Excellent knowledge of IEC, IEEE and UK transmission standards Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills Experience using software such as CDEGS, CYMCAP, COMSOL, AutoCAD or similar The following would be highly advantageous: Previous National Grid project experience Experience working on major electricity transmission frameworks Knowledge of underground and overhead transmission systems Experience leading technical assurance and design governance Why Apply? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer to join a specialist power engineering business delivering major Transmission, Substation and Grid Connection projects across the UK. This HV Commissioning Engineer role is ideal for someone with experience commissioning high-voltage switchgear and transformers who enjoys working on complex transmission infrastructure and taking projects from installation through to energisation. The successful HV Commissioning Engineer will play a key role in delivering major National Grid, DNO and ICP projects, working alongside project engineers, site managers and client representatives to ensure commissioning activities are completed safely, efficiently and in line with industry standards.
